The Art of Grounding

Creates a mentally & physically balanced horse

  • Groundwork - establishes boundaries for safety and prepares your horse for upcoming phases

  • Lunging - develops a confident developing athletic horse

  • In-hand - creates oneness on the ground for a happy, healthy horse under saddle

The Process of Riding

Develops a healthier, stronger, correct foundation for horse and rider

  • Freedom - develops a fluid, forward, willing horse and rider

  • Fluidness -  establishes lateral work in balance

  • Strength & Grace - creates a strong, confident, and graceful partnership ready for more advanced goals

The Masterpiece

Refines communication and skills of horse and rider

  • Secret Language of the Hackamore - ability to go softly and responsively without a bit and perform whatever movements are asked of him

  • Communion of the Two-Rein Horse - refinement of energy for effortless communication between horse and rider

  • Centaurian Bridle Horse - artistic mastery with freedom and balance

You Want A Special Bond, but feel like your horse…

… is more interested in eating than walking – dragging you around to every blade of grass – or stepping on your feet.

… will never stand quietly at the mounting block or go to the “scary” side of the arena.

… ‘fights’ you every time you ask him to do something and it doesn’t matter if you’re on the ground or in the saddle.

… is only happy to see you when you are feeding treats! You wonder “Does he even like me?”

… won’t make any progress! You’ve changed goals, you’ve changed trainers, you’ve read everything you can find – but still no progress.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are a few questions I’m often asked to explain. Please feel free to reach out if you have others!

What is Vaquero?

Vaqueros, the Spanish word for cowboys, use training methods that are based on centuries-old traditions and emphasize the quality of the outcome.

The Vaquero method prides itself on horses that are soft in their mind and body, manoeuvrable, and responsive to only minimal aids from the rider. It is celebrated for creating both unity and harmony between horse and rider.

Can I do this if I don’t ride Vaquero or Dressage?

The foundation you will build with your horse using the Balance & Awareness approach is not specific to any one riding discipline. While this training may appeal to Vaquero and Classical Dressage riders, the type of saddle you ride is not a factor in determining your success.

How long will it take?

Every journey is different and you won’t ever want to go faster than your horse can accept. Moving quickly will not achieve optimal results. We know you’ll want to put your horse’s well-being before all else. Once you see your horse have small successes, we believe you’ll find incredible enjoyment in the process and time spent with your horse - not just the outcome.

Aggressive Young Horse Transforms with Owner into a Happy, Confident Team

I have been attending private clinics with Lynley for the past 2 years. I arrived with a new, young horse with quite a few issues and who was at times very aggressive. Having not ridden for a few years, I was out of my depth.

We are now a happy, confident team and every day I am excited to work with my horse.

She is an incredible teacher and coach, creating space (for) your awareness and observation skills to really develop, to really see your horse and empowering you to find ways to help your horse and deepen your partnership.

Lynley is kind, calm, intuitive and incredibly knowledgeable. She has given me the confidence and skills to trust myself. I’m now so excited about my horse journey, I only wish I’d found her earlier.

Supportive and Patient with Long-lasting Impact

I have loved having lessons with Lynley – every time she has helped both my horse August, and myself work on what we need in order to continue our journey together – she is so supportive and patient with us both.

I have enjoyed attending her Balance & Awareness workshops – I have learnt so much about myself – and how this has, and does continue to impact on how I interact with my horse (and the results we may or may not be achieving together.)

Her teaching style is unique and has been perfect for us.

Lynley is hands down the best instructor I have ever learned from.

A Hormanship Journey of Self-discovery and Growth

Lynley is hands down the best instructor I have ever learned from. She has this great ability to work with what is in front of her, no matter what the level, ability, age or discipline.

I love how she puts the horse first, and teaches us about communication, connection and awareness with our horses AND ourselves! I have learnt a lot about exercises to help my horse become more supple, relaxed and responsive.

This is a continuous, exciting journey and I always look forward to my lessons with Lynley.

She is always positive, has a great sense of humour, and has this innate ability to know how far to extend me and my horses so that we continue to grow. This also encourages self-reflection and searching for answers within myself which is such an important part of this journey.

If you get the chance to do a camp at Lynley’s place in the Wairarapa, go for it!! It’s a great way to have concentrated time with your horse with great people and a beautiful farm. Lynley you rock!!
